Shillong, Jul 31: A free health camp was organised at Moheskola Bazaar to address limited healthcare access in remote areas, through a joint initiative by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Garo Hills Autonomous Council, and a team of 45 medical professionals with the DMHO, South Garo Hills.
The State Forest Department and Moheskola Police Outpost extended support.
A total of 230 villagers received health check-ups, diagnostics and treatment. Awareness sessions were held on primary healthcare, hygiene, maternal and child health, and disease prevention for nearly 120 students and 100 residents.
Moheskola Headman Gilnesh Ch. Marak thanked the organisers.
Teacher Midnightson Ch. Marak said students learnt about hygiene and women’s health for the first time.
WTI Chief of Conservation Dr. Sandeep Kr. Tiwari said the camp reflects WTI’s ‘One Health’ approach linking community well-being with conservation.
WTI said it has worked with GHADC and Meghalaya Forest Department for over 20 years to secure 41 Village Reserve Forests covering 7,500 hectares under the “Garo Green” corridor.
