Shillong, Jul 25: Shillong accorded a grand public reception to internationally acclaimed vocalist Kitkupar Nongsiej on Saturday, following his remarkable performance at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026 in Las Vegas, USA.
Kitkupar was first received at Guwahati airport by his family members, supporters from his native village of Kynshi, and the team of Don Bosco Media Network Television. Later he was given an official welcome at Mawlai ISBT before being escorted to Khyndai Lad.
The event, organised by the Government of Meghalaya through the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in collaboration with Don Bosco Media Network Television (DBMN TV), drew hundreds of admirers, family members, and well-wishers.
Cultural performances marked the occasion, with Sur Kynud winners Chevinia Lyngdoh Mawnai and Shellevah N. Jyrwa dedicating songs to the singer.
Addressing the gathering, Paia War Nongbri, Acting Director of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, congratulated Kitkupar on behalf of the department. He described the young singer as a true role model for the youth of the state, whose dedication, perseverance, and talent have brought immense pride to Meghalaya. Nongbri also expressed appreciation to Kitkupar’s parents and the people of Kynshi village for their unwavering encouragement and support throughout his journey.
Addressing the gathering, Kitkupar expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the government, his family, and DBMN TV. He credited his journey from winning Sur Kynud Season 3 to representing India globally to the platform and guidance provided by Don Bosco Media Network Television.
