Shillong, Jun 6: The Meghalaya High Court has asked the State government to provide details regarding cases registered by police under the NDPS Act against drugs peddlers operating in and around Police Bazar area from January 2026 till date.
The division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh issued the order today after senior lawyer S P Mahanta told the court that there is a large-scale activity of drug peddling in the Police Bazar area which he said needs to be curbed.
The court directed Additional Advocate General K Khan to file an additional affidavit on the cases registered by police and to submit the same at the next hearing which will be held on August 3.
During today’s hearing, Khan also submitted an affidavit on behalf of the State government with regards to the NDPS cases registered in the State between the period from January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
The affidavit also highlighted the action taken with the drugs which were handed over by various authorities to the State police.
