Shillong, Jun 23: The West Garo Hills district is set to launch an intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme starting June 29, aimed to ensure that all eligible children are adequately protected against poliovirus.
The campaign will span three days, giving the opportunity for parents to bring their children for vaccination.
Day one the programme will be observed as Booth Day, where polio drops will be administered at designated vaccination booths across the district. This will be followed by house-to-house immunization on June 30 and July 1 to cover children who miss the booths.
The District Health Society, West Garo Hills, has sought cooperation from departments, stakeholders, and the public to ensure full coverage. Parents and guardians have been urged to bring all children in the eligible age group for vaccination during the campaign.
Polio is a highly infectious disease that can lead to paralysis and sometimes death, affecting primarily young children. The Pulse Polio Immunization programme serves as a critical measure to eradicate polio, as it helps increase immunity among under-vaccinated populations.
