Shillong, Jun 15: The postmortem report of the 27-year-old youth, who was alleged beaten to death by village authorities of Pynter, indicates signs of injury and presence of sharp objects in the victim’s stomach.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that the injury was non-fatal and speculation that the victim ingested glass may be true.
“It appears that the injuries could not have led to his death,” Syiem told reporters.
However, the SP said the report is incomplete as the toxicology and other reports are still pending. Once received the exact cause of death can be ascertained, he added.
Trophimos Khongmawloh was allegedly beaten to death by the Pynter village headman and Village Defence Party (VDP) members on April 7.
Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a First Information Report (FIR) on May 5, alleging murder against the village headman and VDP members, which contradicts earlier claims that Trophimos’s death was caused by poison or glass ingestion.
Police had registered a murder case, exhumed the body on May 18 for forensic investigation.
