Shillong, May 25: PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak chaired a review of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and all crucial water supply schemes in the state at Windermere Resort, here today.
The meeting was attended by officials from the PHE department, who provided insights on various ongoing and upcoming projects.
During the review, the minister focused on significant flagship urban water supply schemes, including New Shillong Township, Williamnagar Phase 2, Greater Shillong, and Baghmara Water Supply Schemes. Additionally, discussions encompassed other vital rural schemes, a press release said.
The progress of the JJM and addressing pending dues were also prioritised, ensuring that the criteria set by the Government of India for fund release are met. Furthermore, the formulation of the Shillong and Tura Jal Board was a key topic, alongside enhancing water quality monitoring and testing facilities.
The collaborative effort to strengthen village and water sanitation committees was highlighted, together with issues surrounding coordination with the PWD Roads Department and the Forest Department. Source protection measures were discussed to ensure sustainable water management across the state, the statement added.
The meeting also saw the launch of a contractor registration portal developed by NIC, aiming to streamline project execution.
