Shillong, May 20: To reduce the risk of relapse and facilitate employment opportunities for individuals recovering from substance abuse, the Dream Mission has launched an initiative focused on providing essential training and toolkits to those who have undergone rehabilitation.
The initiative reached a significant milestone with 15 patients from the New Hope De-addiction Centre in Mawdiangdiang graduating as the first batch.
These men successfully completed a one-month basic wood technician furniture course, acquiring skills that will aid in their reintegration into society. Each participant received a certificate upon completion, affirming their dedication and commitment to recovery.
Officials said the training is part of a larger two-year vocational skill development initiative focused on hands-on, livelihood-oriented skills to improve employability and long-term rehabilitation outcomes.
Under the initiative, each graduate will receive a wood technician toolkit upon discharge, enabling them to commence work immediately to ensure that individuals do not feel the pressure to seek external financial support for essential tools.
The initiative aims to provide a dignified opportunity for self-reliance, fostering a stronger foundation for rehabilitation and social reintegration.
