Shillong, May 17: The 2nd DUBAKH Scholastic Basketball League 2026 concluded on Saturday at Pearly Dew School Basketball Court, Jaiaw Laitdom, here after weeks of exciting competition, sportsmanship and youth engagement through basketball.
Organised by DUBAKH Sports Pvt Ltd, the league brought together 16 school and college teams and over 190 student athletes from across Meghalaya with the aim of promoting grassroots basketball development while spreading awareness against drug abuse and addiction among the youth.
The tournament was proudly presented in partnership with DREAM Meghalaya, under the state government’s Social Welfare Department, along with support from U Matter, Vector X and DB Fast Food.
In the girls’ final, St Mary’s Higher Secondary School emerged champions after defeating Mylliem Presbyterian HSS 36-16. St Mary’s displayed disciplined defence and strong teamwork throughout the game to secure the championship title.
The boys’ final witnessed an intense and thrilling contest between Shillong Commerce College and Thomas Jones Synod College of Jowai. In one of the most competitive matches of the tournament, Shillong Commerce College narrowly clinched the title with a dramatic 38-37 victory.
The champions in both categories were awarded cash prizes of Rs 10,000, while the runners-up received Rs 5,000 along with trophies and medals.
The closing ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests and supporters of youth development and sports, including Roger Vincent Kharbamon of DREAM Meghalaya and others.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, representatives emphasised the importance of sports as a positive platform for youth engagement, discipline, mental wellness and staying away from substance abuse.
The organisers expressed gratitude to all participating institutions, sponsors, officials, volunteers, coaches and supporters who contributed to the successful conduct of the league. DUBAKH Sports reiterated its commitment towards building a stronger basketball culture in Meghalaya and creating meaningful opportunities for young athletes through professionally organised sporting events.
