Shillong, May 12: Police have sought information regarding the antecedents of the unidentified man whose body was found floating in an abandoned coal mine in East Jaintia Hills last week.
The man’s body was found face down in the flooded mine shaft some 50 feet below the surface on May 9. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) managed to pull the deceased the next day.
The body was heavily decomposed and was taken to Khliehriat Civil Hospital for an autopsy. It is being kept at the hospital morgue awaiting claim by relatives. The man was described as being 30-40 years old, of around 5 feet tall, with a fair complexion and he was wearing a blue tracksuit at the time of death.
