Shillong, May 6: With lifestyle diseases and TB remaining key health concerns, the South West Garo Hills district administration has extended its workplace screening drive for Tuberculosis and non-communicable diseases till June 2026, targeting all government employees in the district.
The ongoing drive under the 100-Days TB Campaign and NCD Screening Programme covers tests for TB, hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. Implemented by the District Health Department with other departments, the initiative aims to catch illnesses early before they turn serious.
Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, said early detection is key to better recovery and lower healthcare costs. “Preventive screening helps reduce disease burden. We want every employee to use this facility,” the DC said.
Departments not yet covered will be screened in phases over the coming weeks. Heads of Departments have been asked to ensure all officers and staff are present on scheduled dates and to cooperate with health teams on site.
The administration said the extended timeline gives departments flexibility while ensuring no employee is left out. Staff have been urged to come forward voluntarily for check-ups.
Reiterating its push for stronger public health services, the district administration said the goal is not just treatment but prevention. “Collective participation can help us move towards a TB-free district and healthier workforce,” it added.
