Shillong, May 2: General Administration Department (GAD) minister Sosthenes Sohtun today assured teachers that their duties would be structured and limited to minimise disruptions to academic work due to census enumeration.
Acknowledging that educators are vital in shaping the futures of children, the minister in a video message said teachers not only impart knowledge but also serve as key partners in ensuring that every deserving family is identified and supported during the census.
He said the exercise is instrumental in identifying families who require support from government programs, including job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Proper enumeration ensures that households gain visibility in the system, thereby qualifying for access to essential services such as healthcare and rationing, he added.
He explained that proper enumeration ensures a household becomes visible in the system and eligible for government support.
