Shillong, May 2: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in East Jaintia Hills has called for information on a newborn baby girl found abandoned in the Umpleng area.
Jeny Sukhlaiñ, a resident of Khaidong, stumbled upon the infant late at night on April 29, while returning home after closing her shop. She had reported her discovery at the Umpleng police outpost.
The DCPU in a public notice today appealed to anyone who may have information regarding the identity or background of the child to come forward. Relatives or individuals who have relevant details are encouraged to contact the office or the Child Welfare Committee. The contact number for the CWC is 03655-295014.
If, however, this baby is unclaimed for 60 days, it will be declared legally free for adoption.
