Shillong, Apr 30: The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) today informed that B Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh, a student of Shillong College, successfully completed the Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) held from April 1 to 28 at the prestigious Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling.
The BMC is a foundational programme designed to introduce both men and women to the discipline of mountaineering.
During the course, Lyngdoh achieved remarkable success by securing first position in the sport climbing competition. Sponsored by the Directorate General of Assam Rifles, he completed a significant height-gaining training exercise by summiting Mt. Renok (5025m), showcasing both his skill and determination.
The course provided comprehensive exposure to essential mountaineering skills, including rock climbing, ice craft, route navigation, and survival in high-altitude conditions. Beyond technical expertise, the training instilled confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork among the participants.
