Shillong, Apr 30: A man in East Jaintia Hills has been sentenced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000 in a case relating to rape, criminal intimidation and robbery.
The case was registered at Khliehriat Women Police Station in 2014. The accused, Sweet Phawa, alias Koi, was arrested and charge-sheeted in 2015 by the investigating officer.
At the conclusion of the trial, the court of B Khriam, the District and Sessions Judge, found Phawa guilty and sentenced him.
In a separate case, one Emlang Dkhar was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for aggravated penetrative sexual assault of a minor and criminal intimidation.
The case was also registered at Khliehriat Women Police Station, in 2019. Dkhar was arrested and charge-sheeted in 2020 and found guilty by Special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Judge B Khriam.
