Shillong, Apr 24: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has warned that it will take reciprocal action after the All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) declared “economic sanctions” against Meghalaya.
AAMSU had negatively portrayed Meghalaya as a place of “torture” against labourers and small businessmen from Assam, the GSU said in a press statement today.
This, the GSU said, ignores what it and pressure groups see as “unchecked influx, exploitation of local resources and economic domination by outside elements.”
Although Meghalaya is wholly dependent on Assam for access to the rest of India, the GSU said it will launch “strong and proportionate” action targetting the Mankachar to Guwahati road, which passes through Garo Hills at Phulbari.
