Jowai, Apr 23: A Nutrition-cum-Health Mela was held yesterday at Amlarem sub-division as part of the golden jubilee celebration marking 50 years of the Amlarem civil sub-division.
The programme was held at Syiem Jingsuk Parish Hall, Amlarem, organised by Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Project Amlarem, West Jaintia Hills District. Various departments set up stalls showcasing their service, schemes and programmes aimed at educating the public.
In her address, SDO Vevotolu Kezo appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the people and emphasised that such a programme aims to build an empowered society that is physically strong, mentally sound and emotionally healthy.
She stressed the importance of the first 1000 days of a child’s life, from conception onwards to the age of 2, stating proper nutrition and healthcare for both mother and child during this period are crucial. She also undescored the value of millet as a nutritious, affordable and locally available food. She also emphasised the importance of timely vaccination.
