Shillong, Apr 20: Nongkseh SSCC rocketed to a humongous 13-0 victory against Umkaber SCC in Group A of the 5th Meghalaya State League at the SSA Stadium here today.
It was a day of consolidation for the five Shillong-based clubs who were involved today as each registered comfortable victories to go to the top of their respective groups. There were also wins for Umlakro SC in Group F and A’chik SCO Rongjeng in Group G.
Chesterpaul Lyngdoh (5′, 45′, 56′) and Shano Tariang (12′, 38′, 52′) bagged a hat-trick of goals each, with Khrawkupar Jana (32’P, 45’+1), Kitboklang Pale (57′, 78′) and Sheen Sohktung (70′, 82′) scoring two each for Nongkseh. Umkaber’s Banshanlang Kharsynniang (30′) also conceded an own goal.
Umkaber were three goals down when Andriano P Mawlong was shown a direct red card for pulling down Shano in the box in a desperate attempt to stop the striker from scoring. Reduced to 10 men made the situation harder for Umkaber and they conceded another four goals before half time and then six in the second 45 minutes.
Another hat-trick was scored in Amlarem by Damanbhalang Chyne (12′, 28′, 44’P) as defending champions Mawlai SC beat Lamin XI SCC 6-1 in Group C.
Arkibor Makhroh (17′), Basuklang Bina (32′) and Wadshwa Latoo (86′) were the other scorers for Mawlai, while Shanbor Sumer (19′) netted for Lamin XI.
In Group B, played at Shillong’s MFA Ground, Nangkiew Irat SC took down Mawphu SC 3-0, with all the goals coming in the first half. Dibinroy Nongspung (5′, 38′) and Banshanlang Nongdhar (43′) were the scorers.
The exact same result was recorded in Williamnagar where A’chik SCO Rongjeng blanked Attong Matgrik FC 3-0 in Group G. Here, all the goals came in the second half via Perioush N Sangma (50′) and Klubarth M Sangma (66′, 72′).
That was Attong Matgrik’s second straight defeat and another team to have lost two games in a row is Mishon SSCC in Group F. After having been beaten by Langsning FC last week, they were edged 1-0 by Umlakro SC today in Mairang, with Jewelstar R Marak (6′) scoring the lone goal early in the contest.
Meanwhile, in Wahiajer, 2019 MSL champions Shillong Lajong FC engaged in a good battle with Lamyrsiang SCC and triumphed 3-1 in Group E. Hamedamanbha Wahlang (27′), Lalmuansanga (46′) and Deibormame Tongper (63′) scored for Lajong, while Eborki Marsharing (45’+2) brought some joy to Lamyrsiang.
It was a similar situation in Mawkyrwat where Rangdajied United FC, the 2023 champions, defeated Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun 3-1. Here Pasborlang Khonglikong (9′), Phibankhrawbok Nongkhlaw (31′) and Khainkupar Iawphniaw (62′) scored for Rangdajied in the Group H encounter before Rangkynsaistar Mawsor (86′) netted a consolation goal before the final whistle.
Finally, there was one deadlocked game today, with Ladthadlaboh SC and Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC playing out a 2-2 draw in Khliehriat. The latter were leading 2-0 before an hour’s play in Group D thanks to Thomas Dkhar (57′) and Briwon Dkhar (59′) but Ladthadlaboh pulled themselves back through substitutes Andrew Nanghuloo (71’P) and Evening Tariang (90’+1).
