Shillong, Apr 20: Police fished out the body of a man from the Umran River in Umsning on Sunday.
The man, who was not identified, died of suspected drowning.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 8 am on Sunday when three friends had gone to the river to wash clothes. It was reported that the man was suddenly swept away by the strong current and drowned.
Police said a detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body has been sent to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh for necessary formalities.
