Shillong, Apr 3: The Sohiong circle of the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has sought clarification from the Public Works Department (Roads) regarding the removal of delineators along the Shillong-Nongstoiñ Road, i.e. National Highway 44E (New NH-106).
The pressure group cited a sanctioned amount of Rs 19.43 lakh and accused the PWD (Roads) National Highway Division, Shillong, of misusing public funds by removing the newly-erected delineators.
The HYC also raised concerns about rampant stone and sand quarries along the road, alleging the department is turning a blind eye despite complaints.
The group cited a District Magistrate’s ban on unchecked quarries and the National Green Tribunal’s directions, accusing the department of neglecting its responsibility and putting public lives at risk.
