Shillong, Mar 19: Dumping waste, sewage, plastic, or debris and discharge of effluents into gorges and streams along the old NH-40 from KHADC Junction to Umiam bridge has been prohibited.
East Khasi Hills District Magistrate in a prohibitory order said there has been repeated dumping of waste at various locations along the old NH-40, posing a serious threat to commuter safety, public health, and environmental sustainability.
“Such acts amount to public nuisance and may lead to health hazards, requiring immediate preventive measures,” the order states.
Violators will face legal action under Section 223 of the BNS and other relevant laws.
