Shillong, Mar 16: The Meghalaya ASHA Workers Union (MAWU) has expressed concern over the sudden termination of several ASHA workers in Ri Bhoi District without prior notice.
The union met with Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, seeking clarification on the grounds for the termination.
According to MAWU Adviser Sony Kharjana, many ASHA workers have served diligently for a long time but were removed without notification.
The Deputy Commissioner cited unsatisfactory performance as the reason for termination. However, MAWU demands proper procedures be followed, including a three-month notice period, before removing any ASHA worker.
The union urged the Deputy Commissioner to review the matter and explore solutions before taking a final decision, stating that ASHA workers deserve to be treated fairly after serving the community.
