Shillong, Mar 14: As part of the preparatory activities for Census 2027, 10 master trainers—six from the state government and four from the Directorate of Census Operations—received training at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI).
The four-day training for Phase-I, which is the House-Listing Operations (HLO) of the census, was organised by the Directorate of Census Operations and Ministry of Home Affairs.
The 10 master trainers were trained by Aiborlang Sanglyne Basan, Deputy Director and Donboklang Syiemsad, Assistant Director of Census Operations Meghalaya, who are the national trainers for the state. In turn the trainers will then impart training to 208 field trainers across the districts of the state.
The training is aimed to equip select officers of the directorate and of the state government with in-depth knowledge of HLO concepts, digital data collection procedures and monitoring mechanisms.
Pooja Pandey, State Nodal Officer for Census, informed that the HLO is the foundational phase of Census 2027 and involves the systematic enumeration of every building and census house, household amenities and other related details. She said the field trainers will train enumerators and supervisors.
Pandey said the training marks the start of a historic journey for Meghalaya as this will be the first ever first Digital Census of India where digitals tools, apps and portals will be used extensively to conduct and monitor the census.
“The Census of India is one of the largest administrative exercises in the world and a source of accurate statistics for policy making for both the Central and State Government as well as public stakeholders,” she said and urged the people to take part in the exercise so that each and every individual of the state is covered.
The Census of India 2027 will be conducted in two phases: Phase 1 — House Listing and Housing Census, and Phase II — Population Enumeration.
The self-enumeration process will be carried out from May 1 to 15, 2026, followed by houselisting operations from May 16 to June 14, 2026.
The second phase, which is the population enumeration of the census, will be conducted in February 2027.
