Shillong, Feb 17: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has secured 18th position in the Fortune 100 National Institutional Index (NII) 2026.
The NII was officially unveiled during the Global Conference on Education for Sustainable Future (GCE2026) held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 11.
In a press release today, USTM said that it had received the recognition for its “exemplary contributions toward advancing education aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN 2030 Agenda.”
USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma received the certificate of recognition from the Fortune Institution Index, formally acknowledging the university’s inclusion among the Fortune 100 institutions.
The Fortune 100 NII ranking was determined through a rigorous and multidimensional evaluation framework that assessed institutions on key performance indicators such as academic excellence and innovation, the strength of institutional governance and visionary leadership, the depth and impact of research contributions and knowledge creation and a demonstrated commitment to sustainability aligned with the United Nations SDGs, USTM said.
“USTM’s 18th rank reflects its sustained global commitment to responsible education, climate consciousness, sustainable innovation and inclusive development. Over the years, the university has strategically integrated SDG frameworks into its academic curricula, research initiatives, campus operations and community outreach programmes,” the release concluded.
