Shillong, Feb 4: A separate and independent contract has been awarded for slope protection and allied works at seven vulnerable locations along the Jowai-Ratacherra stretch of the national highway (NH-6).
This was informed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in its status report submitted before the Meghalaya High Court Division Bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh.
According to the counsel representing the NHAI, though the main carriageway of the stretch stands completed there is the problem of recurring landslides. The work is being executed by MFB Geotech Private Limited on a contract for one and a half year.
It stated in the report that the works at these locations are confined to small stretches of about 50 to 100 meters each, primarily on the hill and valley sides and are being carried out without disturbing the main carriageway.
“The culvert work at 105 km is in progress and the road has been kept motorable. Barring two-three scattered stretches of limited length, 50 to 100 meters each, the entire road stands completed in all respects and is operational,” the NHAI said.
While assuring that patches which are left to be done, including the culvert work will be completed within two weeks from today the NHAI has sought time to place the completion of the construction of the road on affidavit.
The court said the affidavit has to be filed in the Registry before the next date, scheduled on February 24, 2026.
