Shillong, Jan 22: Garo Hills Research Center and Records Foundation (GHRCRF) has stated that the proposed Garo Hills Knowledge Park International University would be a catalyst for the state’s economic ambitions.
According to the foundation, a proposal for setting up of a park university at Dollonggre Jengjal, West Garo Hills was made on September 22, 2025.
“Our vision is strategically aligned with the Chief Minister’s goal of transforming Meghalaya into a Trillion-Sized Economy (targeting a $10 Billion GSDP by 2028 and a $100 Billion vision for 2047),” Media Secretary Sengwat A. Sangma said in a statement today.
He said the university is envisioned as the “Eden Garden of Garo Hills” the first eco-sensitive campus in Northeast India. The architectural plan, designed by imaginary architect, sets a new standard for development wherein the campus will be built without altering the natural topography, minimal tree removal even as indoor vegetation will feature in classrooms and a dedicated mini-zoo/conservation area, blending education with environmental stewardship.
Sangma further said the university would attract national and international researchers and students, boosting the local service economy in Jengjal and stimulate MSMEs and local employment in the Dollonggre region.
