One Sanjay Das has been sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 364(A) of the Indian Penal Code, a press release informed today.
No details were provided of Das’s crime. However, this section of the IPC pertains to kidnapping or abducting someone to murder them or endanger their life. Das was also fined Rs 50,000.
The original complaint was made in 2012 and the charge sheet filed in July 2014.
In another serious case, one Ramesh Dkhar was sentenced to life with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 302 of the IPC, which deals with murder. The complaint was made in 2020 and the charge sheet filed in March 2021.
In a separate case, one Apurba Das was conviction under Section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Assault (POCSO) Act. The original complaint was made in 2022 and a charge sheet filed in February 2023. Das was sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000. He was also found guilty under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and sentenced to 3 years and a fine of Rs 5,000. These sections deal with sexual assault of children.
All three cases were heard by B Khriam, Special Judge of East Jaintia Hills.
