The road network in Meghalaya is improving like never before, at least in cabinet minister Timothy D Shira’s constituency of Resubelpara.
Speaking to reporters today, Shira said that roadwork in his seat connecting Resubelpara to Songsak-Mendipathar and Tura to Berubari to National Highway 51 all point to positive infrastructure development with more to come.
He said that within this year the Songsak-Mendipathar Road work will start and next year the Songsak-Resutekachang to Anugre road will be taken up at a cost of Rs 135 crore, which will be funded by the World Bank.
He said that the road conditions in his constituency from Berubari to Mendipathar and Mendipathar to Damra were in a dilapidated condition but these roads’ construction have been completed.
“People now are enjoying the good roads. They have never enjoyed it before,” Shira said.
The cabinet minister and local MLA said that by building roads through the villages residents have benefitted from them. He also said that Mendipathar now has a bottling plant which has provided employment to the local youths.
“There are many being employed by the company. They are staying in rented houses in Mendipathar and so indirectly people are getting benefits by renting rooms to the employees,” Shira added.
