Shillong, Dec 15: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the State government to finalise the pension scheme for deficit college teachers within four weeks.
A division bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Hamarsan Thangkhiew noted that the submission made by the counsel for the Meghalaya College Teachers Association and Greater Phulbari Area Deficit School Retired Teachers & Employees Association has substance.
According to the petitioners, the State is legally bound to notify the pension scheme and any deviation would amount to an act of detriment in respect of the members of the petitioner association, as well all the employees of the deficit grants-in-aid colleges, who are duly entitled to the benefits of the scheme.
The State in its submission said that the Portfolio Manager has been appointed and approved to withdraw the fund as finalisation of the draft pension scheme is in the process.
The state also told the court that it requires two additional weeks to complete the drafting/vetting process in order to ensure that the scheme is comprehensive.
