Shillong, Dec 9: Several groups have written a joint letter to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corp Ltd (NHIDCL) citing flaws and lapses in the implementation of the Shillong-Dawki Road project.
The letter, signed by pressure groups and other stakeholders, highlighted issues causing disruptions to traffic and affecting locals’ lives and livelihoods.
The signatories have urged the NHIDCL to address concerns, including night blasting, adherence to scheduled working hours, proper management of stock and debris and prevention of indiscriminate dumping of soil and rocks. They also expressed concerns over water scarcity and public safety.
“We would like to urge upon you to kindly address the issues and challenges that we have faced as a people of the region and the state as a whole,” the letter said.
It suggested shifting blasting schedules to night to minimise traffic disruptions and ensuring proper management of debris to prevent congestion.
They also requested the company to adhere to scheduled working hours to prevent delays and ensure public safety.
The letter highlighted the impact of the project’s disruptions on locals, including farmers and those seeking medical attention.
