Shillong, Nov 12: A remote village in Ri Bhoi district, Nongspung A, is poised for a major turnaround with the ICAR-NEH’s new initiative to promote scientific poultry farming and strengthen rural livelihoods.
The village has been adopted as Northeast India’s first Model Poultry Cluster Village, with an MoU signed between ICAR-NEH and the Dorbar of Nongspung A village.
The partnership aims to provide scientific training, improved poultry breeds, and guidance on efficient resource use, creating a sustainable model for income generation and nutritional security.
Director of ICAR-NEH, Dr. Samarendra Hazarika, emphasized community participation as the cornerstone of the initiative, aiming to make Nongspung A a role model for rural entrepreneurship in Meghalaya and the wider Northeast.
The project is expected to create new employment opportunities, particularly for local youth and women, paving the way for greater self-reliance and prosperity. Village representatives expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential to transform Nongspung A’s future.
