Shillong, Oct 25: The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSASA) has filed a review petition at the Supreme Court, seeking to challenge its September 1, 2025, judgment that mandates the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for all in-service teachers, regardless of their length of service.
Aristotle Rymbai, President of MSSASA, said, “We are here to inform all SSA teachers in particular and other categories of teachers in general in the state of Meghalaya that the Meghalaya SSA School Association, central body, on October 24, 2025, filed a review petition in the Honorable Supreme Court of India.”
He expressed gratitude to the teachers for their support and prayers, which enabled them to file the case. The association will provide updates on the case as it progresses.
The MSSASA, representing SSA teachers, argues that the retrospective application of the judgment is unfair, particularly for long-serving teachers nearing retirement. The association has sought relief for teachers who were appointed prior to the enforcement of TET requirements.
The Supreme Court’s judgment was based on the 2010 National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) notification and the 2017 amendments to the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The ruling overrides the earlier exemption granted to teachers appointed before August 23, 2010, bringing all in-service teachers under the TET requirement. Approximately 43,102 teachers are in Meghalaya, with 10,000 to 15,000 potentially affected by the ruling.
