Shillong, Sep 28: Comments by an Instagrammer called twisted_koala (her real name is unknown) have gone viral after she targeted Meghalaya’s beloved grandma marathoner Kmoin Wahlang.
Wahlang was the subject of a post by The Better India, which typically uploads feel-good content. The digital media platform has profiled the 76-year-old Wahlang before and in its most recent post mentioned that she is a mother of 12, has 54 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dubbing her a ‘Super Granny’, the post said that she is the “fitness guru we all need”.
But twisted_koala took umbrage at this description of Wahlang and lived up to her username with a shocking invective.
“This woman is far from a super anything,” she wrote in the comment section of The Better India’s post. “Please STOP GLORIFYING WOMEN who choose to behave like rats and reproduce like them as well. Women like this are a disgrace to the rights and education that women have fought so hard for over the past few decades. This is exactly the definition of a useless waste of human life. Anyone who has 12 KIDS in a world with so many kids already homeless should be ashamed of themselves.”
This vile comment was torn apart by others coming to the defence of Wahlang. Several pointed out that she is of a generation where large families were more common.
The one positive to be seen from all this is that the vast majority of comments were positive. But the viciousness of twisted_koala has been truly shocking, especially as the victim of her verbal assault is a kindly, hugely inspiring septuagenarian.
