Shillong, Sep 18: The Meghalaya Athletics Association (MAA) has sent 39 athletes to take part in the 36th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship 2025, to be held in Ranchi from September 22 to 24.
The team will leave tomorrow morning and reach the Jharkhand capital on Saturday evening.
Meghalaya had won 4 medals – 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze – at last year’s championship.
There are 21 boys and 18 girls in the Meghalaya contingent and they have been selected based on their performances in different competitions and trials organised by the state government’s Sports and Youth Affairs Department and the MAA. These events include the State Level Inter School Athletic Meet 2025, Meghalaya Games 2025 and high performance camp.
Training for the East Zone championship began on September 8 under the guidance of coaches from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Sports Authority of India, Khelo India and Super Elite Pathway Programme.
“Though the duration of training is not of a longer period, we expect our athletes to do well and bag a few medals from this championship,” MAA general secretary Finely L Pariat said in a release today.
Five coaches are accompanying Team Meghalaya to Ranchi – Daisy Marwein (head coach and manager), Fidellia Sun, Amin Kharkongor, Marso Kyndait and Wickbond L Mawlong.
