Jowai, Sep 10: A man by the name of Dros Pakem was convicted today of culpable homicide not amounting to murder (commonly known as manslaughter) by the court of the District and Sessions Judge of West Jaintia Hills, NA Khan.
The case goes back to July 2011 when Dros killed one Dao Pakem with a wooden stool in Mooralong, under Jowai Police Station. The relationship between the two was not spelled out in the official press release regarding the case.
Dao sustained a severe injury and died the next day while being transported to Jowai Civil Hospital.
The court sentenced Dros to two years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000.
