Shillong, Sep 5: Restrictions have been lifted from Weisawdong Falls and Riat Arliang, allowing for the reopening of the popular tourist spot.
As per a recent meeting held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner M.A. Challam, the decision to lift restrictions was made after deliberating with village heads from Mawphu, Umblai, Laitduh, and Laitlyndop villages.
“Weisawdong Falls falls in some measure under the jurisdiction of Laitduh Village. Accordingly, Laitduh Village may resume tourist-related operations at Weisawdong Falls,” the order said.
The meeting also addressed concerns raised by representatives of Umblai and Mawphu villages, who expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of a demarcation exercise.
However, as a gesture of goodwill and in the interest of peace and harmony, it was agreed that while Laitduh Village may operate tourism activities at Weisawdong Falls, the parking lot at Riat Arliang under Umblai Village may be used by tourists for vehicle parking.
Authorities have cautioned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands, and village headmen have been instructed to ensure compliance with the decisions made.
