Shillong, Aug 25: The Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB) will soon submit its recommendations aimed at easing the growing traffic congestion in Shillong city to the State government.
MSPB Chairman Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday conducted inspections at various locations in the city, accompanied by headmen of Lumbatngen, Sawlad, and Lapalang.
Lyngdoh emphasised the board’s efforts to address the growing concern of traffic congestion in Shillong and said, “We will soon submit a report to strongly recommend that the state government take steps to widen existing roads and construct new roads to solve this problem of traffic congestion,” he stated.
The inspection identified critical areas for improvement, including the Saw Lad junction to Lapalang and Lumbatngen, as well as the road near the Assam Regiment. The board plans to widen existing roads and construct new ones to alleviate congestion.
Earlier, the board had brainstormed solutions to the city’s perennial traffic congestion, citing issues such as a shortage of traffic police personnel, poor infrastructure, and vehicle overload.
