Khliehriat, Aug 19: Two persons suspected to be part of an interstate crime syndicate involving narcotics smuggling, were arrested by East Jaintia Hills police on Tuesday morning.
Amol Nath (42) of Silchar and Radika Ranjan Das of Tripura’s Dholai district were held with a huge drug consignment while travelling inside a Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) bus on the way to Shillong from Silchar in Assam.
Acting on a tip-off the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the district had intercepted the bus in Lumshnong area at around 4 am.
“During the search, 10.35 kg of marijuana, 2,736 tramadol hydrochloride capsules and around 6,000 nitrazepam tablets were recovered,” Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar said.
“These apprehended drug suppliers are suspected to be part of larger organised crime syndicate,” he added.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at the Lumshnong police station, and an investigation is on.
