Nongpoh, Aug 9: Two organisations in Ri Bhoi district have lodged a complaint with the Nongpoh police and food safety authorities against shops violating norms laid down by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Earlier, the two groups Ri Bhoi Youth Development and Social Organization (RBYDSO) and the Meghalaya People Social Organization (MPSO) conducted an inspection of hotels, roadside eateries, and snack shops after an approval from the Food Safety Department.
The organisation members conducted the inspection in the presence of police in Nongpoh and nearby villages along National Highway 6.
During the inspection, they discovered several shops and eateries in clear violation of the Food Safety Act, posing potential health risks to consumers. It was also found that some outlets were selling expired food items and other unsafe products unfit for public consumption.
