Eighty-two youth from Meghalaya are attending the 8th North East Youth Festival 2025 in Gangtok, Sikkim which began on March 17.
The contingent consists of 57 participants from the Khasi and Jaintia regions and 25 from the Garo Hills, showcasing Meghalaya’s cultural diversity and vibrant talent.
The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs said these youth will represent the state in a variety of competitive and non-competitive events, including Group Folk Song, Group Folk Dance, Quiz Competition, Rock Band, One-Act Play, Solo Guitar, and Adventure Activities.
Participants were selected based on their outstanding performances at the State-Level Youth Exchange Programme held earlier in Shillong. The first and second runners-up from the programme have been given the opportunity to represent Meghalaya at this prestigious regional festival.
The North East Youth Festival serves as a platform for young individuals from across the region to showcase their talents, foster camaraderie, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast.
The festival, which will conclude on March 20, will feature a mix of competitive and non-competitive events, designed to shape the youth’s mindset and prepare them for a prosperous, inclusive, and self-reliant Northeast, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
