      Meghalaya marked its annual Republic Day. Here are some of the highlights at the district headquarters and civil sub-divisions:

      Tura: Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of 10 parade contingents comprising of 2nd MLP Battalion, NCC (Boys and Girls), Don Bosco College, Bharat Scouts & Guides and Band Party from 2nd MLP Battalion at Matchakolgre L P School Playground, New Tura.

      The other highlights of the day’s celebration include tableau presentation by different departments, handing over of Certificates of Appreciation to the officers and staff of various departments, felicitation of SSLC and HSSLC toppers and individuals of the district.

      Williamnagar: Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chelani unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of 20 contingents at Rongrenggiri Govt. Higher Secondary School playground. The other highlights of the celebration include tableau presentation and games and sports for children.

      Ampati: Deputy Commissioner, Gideon Kharmawphlang unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 11 parade contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police, NCC and Scouts & Guides at Ampati Mini Stadium.

      During the celebration, police personnel and government employees from various departments were conferred with Appreciation Certificates for their dedication and outstanding services.

      The highlights of the day-long celebration were the tableau presentation, cultural programme by various schools and cultural groups, children’s sports and exhibition football match played between DC XI and SP XI, where the Police team defeated DC XI by 4-2 goals.

      Resubelpara: Deputy Commissioner, R P Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 14 Parade contingents of the Meghalaya Police, NCC, Bharat Scouts & Guides and School students at a programme held at Resubelpara Mini Stadium.

      Other highlights of the day include presentation of awards to best performing PHC and Sub-Centre and cultural programmes.

      Baghmara: Deputy Commissioner, S. Awasthi unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of 10 marching contingents comprising of the BSF, Meghalaya Police and schools from Baghmara.

      During the celebration, Certificates of Appreciation were handed over to the best performing employees of the District. Cleanest localities of the district viz. Dabram, RC Compound and Bolsalgre locality were given cash prizes of Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively.

      The highlights of the day include cultural programme, tableau presentation, sports for children and exhibition football and cricket match.

      Jowai: Deputy Commissioner, Batlang S Sohliya unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 21 marching contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police, NCC contingents from Government Girls Higher Secondary Schools-Jowai, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides and 18 schools from Jowai.

      Other highlights of the day include tableau presentation, songs and dances performed by students and localities of Jowai Town, distribution of food packages and gifts to Childrens’ Home by the government departments and social organisations and also a Final Football Match played between Demthring SC and Sabah Muswang SC at Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Ladthalaboh.

      Khliehriat: Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of 9 parade contingents comprising of Police Personnel, NCC Cadets, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and students of different schools at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School playground.

      During the function, Certificates of Appreciation and mementos were handed over by the Deputy Commissioner to Smti R. Passah, District Social Welfare Officer, Patrick S. Dkhar Supervisor, District Social Welfare Office and to the Multi- purposed Rehabilitation Workers and Community Based Rehabilitation Workers of Wapung C&RD Block and Saipung C&RD Block for their support and assistance to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for verification of Persons with Disabilities and for being committed towards working for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities in the District.

      The other highlights of the day include tableau presentation, prize distribution to the winner of the March Past which was bagged by JNV Girls, Rymbai, Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat was adjudged as the winner of the cultural programme. The best tableau presentation was awarded to the Office of the District Commerce and Industries Centre, East Jaintia Hills District.

      As part of the celebration, gifts were also distributed to Children’s Home (Boys and Girls), Thyndai Child Care Institute cum Counselling Centre, Tuber Kmai Shnong and to the patients of Khliehriat Civil Hospital. The day ended with a friendly match played between the Officer’s Club and the Local Headmen of East Jaintia Hills District.

      Nongstoiñ: Deputy Commissioner, Garod L.S.N. Dykes unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 13 marching contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police, NCC, and 9 schools from Nongstoiñ at a programme held at St. Peters Playground.

      The highlights of the day include tableau presentation, cultural programmes and distribution of sweets and food packages to patients of Nongstoiñ Civil Hospital.

      Mawkyrwat: Deputy Commissioner, T Lyngwa unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the parade contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police and 6 schools at a function held at Nativity Higher Secondary School playground, Mawkyrwat.

      The other highlights of the celebration include tableau presentation, cultural programme, distribution of food packages by the Officers’ Club of Mawkyrwat to the Hope Orphanage at Mawlangwir and Marshillong followed by sports & games for the differently abled persons.

      Nongpoh: Deputy Commissioner, Arpit Upadhyaya unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 15 Contingent comprising of Meghalaya Police 6th MLP Battalion, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Auxilium NCC Cadre, Ri Bhoi Scouts and Guides, school children from different schools and a Band party of St. Paul’s Hr. Sec School Nongpoh at NSCA Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem.

      The celebration includes presentation of tableaus by different government departments and cultural programmes.

      Mairang: Deputy Commissioner, W. Nongsiej unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the marching contingents at Madan Dommawlum, Pyndengumiong. Bynther Secondary School,  Langtor Higher Secondary School and Mairang Presbyterian English Medium School bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively in the march past competition.

      The other highlights of the celebration include tableau presentation by various departments with the offices of the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Mairang, the Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD  Block, Mairang and the Fishery Officer, Mairang winning the first, second and third prizes respectively and  cultural items competition where Seng Khasi Secondary School, Pyndengumiong bagged the first prize, St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Mairang the second prize and Multipurpose Secondary School, Lumrit Sohdadek  bagged the third prize.

      Sohra Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), H Nayak unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the marching contingents comprising of the East Khasi Hills DEF, NCC and school students at Sohra Sports Stadium, Saitsohpen.

      Other highlights of the celebration included cultural programmes.

      Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division: Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), Abhishek Gowda MJ unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of 11 marching contingents at Dadenggre public playground.

      Cultural programmes and felicitations of the employees of Dadenggre Civil Division for their meritorious services and sports for children were the other highlights of the day.

      Amlarem Civil Sub-Division: Additional Deputy Commissioner in-charge Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, J U Kharpuri unfurled the National Flag took the Salute of 3 marching contingents comprising of the Meghalaya police and two schools at Amlarem Government Lower Primary School Playground.

      Cultural programme, tableau presentations were the other highlights of the day.

      Pynursla Civil Sub-Division: Extra Assistant Commissioner, E Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute at Urksew Umkor Pynursla Sport Club Stadium. Other highlights of the programme include handing of gift packets to the patients of Pynursla CHC and to the NEIMA orphanage.

      Mawshynrut Civil Sub Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), H.K Thabah unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 3 marching contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police and school students.

      Other highlights of the day were cultural programmes, distribution of gifts to the differently-abled persons and a friendly football match between Government officials and Sordar Rangbah Shnong.

      Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division: Additional Deputy Commissioner in-charge Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division, Dolrich Berin G. Momin unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 7 marching contingents at Matchokgre HS School playground.

      Chokpot Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Pilot Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute at Chokpot ME School Playground.

      Ranikor Civil Sub-Division: Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), B.J. Kharchandy unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the marching contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police and schools at Nolikata playground.

      Cultural programmes, games and sports for children were the other highlights of the day.

      Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division: Additional Deputy Commissioner in-charge Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division, M.B Tongper MCS, unfurled the National flag and took the Salute of marching contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police and school children at Western Ri Bhoi Sport Association Umsaw, Patharkhmah Playground.

      The celebration includes presentation of patriotic songs and dances performed by the school children, a friendly football match and prize distribution to the winners of March-past and cultural programmes.

      Jengjal Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Winje G. Momin unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute at Jengjal Government Upper Primary School playground.

      Dalu Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), S.K. Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute.

      Hima Shangpung, Laskein Block Development Officer, B Niang unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute at Hula Playground, Moosyiem, Shangpung.
