Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today felicitated 70 Deputy Superintendents of Police (probationers) from Assam and Mizoram during the passing out parade of the 54th Basic Course at the North East Police Academy (NEPA) in Umsaw village, Ri-Bhoi.
These officers have completed their training and are now set to take up their responsibilities in their respective states.
Among the 70 officers honoured today, 62 are from Assam while eight are from Mizoram. The batch includes 20 women and 50 men. The ceremony was attended by NEPA Director Danesh Rana, high ranking officials from Meghalaya and Assam, family members of the graduating officers and other dignitaries.
These trainee officers began their training from April 2, 2024 and underwent a training module that included many new topics, such as national security, importance of quick response, alertness and reaction to situations, trust deficit in police, crime against women, revenue records, registration of documents with Sub-Registrar, dealing with civil suits and writ petitions, banking processes, preparation of externment proposals, investigation of railway crimes, new criminal laws, investigation of cross border crimes, crisis management etc.
Sarma appreciated NEPA for providing excellent training to the trainee officers. The Assam CM congratulated the young officers for successfully completing the training and distributed the trophies and medals awarded to the trainees for their individual performance during the training period.
He also emphasised the crucial role of the police force in maintaining security and public trust. He urged the new officers to work diligently in ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens, particularly senior citizens, women and children. He stressed the importance of vigilance in preventing violence and maintaining communal harmony. The CM also highlighted the need for police officers to operate with empathy and a humane approach, strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the public.
