In an effort to improve healthcare access in remote areas, Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A Sangma donated seven ambulances under the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) scheme for 2023–24 and 2024–25.
The latest ambulance was handed over on Tuesday to St Anne’s School in Garagre village under Zikzak block, bringing the total number of ambulances provided to seven.
These ambulances are aimed at supporting emergency medical needs in rural and hard-to-reach areas of the South West Garo Hills.
Sangma, a native of Boldamgre, recalled the hardships faced by families during his childhood, particularly the lack of timely medical assistance for pregnant women. He emphasised that the donations are driven by a deep commitment to serve the people of his constituency.
Apart from healthcare, Sangma has also focused on improving rural infrastructure. Multiple waiting sheds have been constructed to provide shelter for commuters, especially during the scorching summer months.
“Of course there are many challenges to be addressed in my constituency but I will continue to take a wholehearted interest in developing my area,” Sangma said. “As a local boy I understand the struggles of my people and I will ensure that such initiatives bring real relief to them.”
