More than 50 students of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) passed the University Grants Commission–National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), which qualifies them for higher education teaching posts.
The tests were held in December. Under its ‘Pay Back Policy’, USTM will reimburse the entire course fee to these NET-qualified students as a reward for their outstanding achievement in the national-level competitive exam.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof GD Sharma, USTM Vice-Chancellor, stated, “USTM remains committed to empowering students by expanding our coaching programmes, ensuring they not only succeed in national competitive exams but also emerge as leaders in their respective fields. We offer financial incentives to encourage and motivate students, reinforcing our belief that no deserving student should be deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.”
He further highlighted that USTM’s coaching initiatives go beyond academics, incorporating soft skills training, interview workshops and motivational seminars to prepare students holistically for their academic and professional journeys.
As part of its outreach mission, USTM also provides free coaching for NET, SLET, GATE, banking, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and other government competitive exams through its Centre for Competitive Examination. The NET Forum has been guiding students since 2017.
