More than 50 houses in the Tura area were damaged last night after a hailstorm accompanied by strong gusts of wind hit the town.
According to information provided by the district administration, assessment of the damage was still being conducted with data from various blocks yet to come in.
Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh paid a visit early today morning to some of the areas affected by the hailstorm and reviewed the situation. The DC promised that relief will be provided to the affected families after assessment by the State Disaster Response Force while gratuitous relief was being provided with immediate effect for one week for those affected.
Several houses, most kutcha ones, were severely damaged due to the strong winds, with many houses collapsing while others lost their roofs. Those who have been affected by the storm have been encouraged to approach their Block Development Office.
The areas that were affected are Hawakhana, Shantinagar, Kamipara, Hawakhana, Rongkhon Songgital, Mody Nagar (Northern Zone), Lower Mission Compound, Rengmalgittim, Lower Balsanang and Teteng Aja.
