Despite a call to boycott the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) election on Monday, District Council Affairs Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today gave his assurance that the government is fully prepared to hold the polls.
Several pressure groups have been calling for a boycott of the election in protest against non-tribal participation as voters and candidates.
“I don’t see any hiccups and I hope the election will go smoothly,” Rymbui told reporters.
The minister also urged candidates to encourage their supporters to exercise their franchise and to do so peacefully.
“The district administration and government is taking all necessary steps to see that the election will be conducted smoothly,” Rymbui added.
