A man who had been undergoing mental health treatment took his own life in Ri-Bhoi today morning.
Rajesh Jana (38), a resident of Umroi Nongrah Dongrudwah, hanged himself in a chicken coop sometime before 7:40am, when the body was discovered by his mother and siblings.
Jana had eaten breakfast before killing himself. His family members removed the rope he had used and brought the body inside the house before police arrived at the scene.
The victim had been receiving treatment at MIMHANS in Shillong and had attempted suicide previously.
An inquest was conducted but, at the family’s request, no post-mortem was held as it was a clear case of suicide.
