Thirty former members of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) from Sohiong and Nongstoin today formally joined the Voice of the People Party (VPP).
The members were formally welcomed by VPP president and Nongkrem MLA Ardent M Basaiawmoit in the presence of Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, VPP MP candidate R Syngkon and others.
In a speech, Basaiawmoit urged the members to stick to the principles and stressed that VPP leaders yearn to give the future generation a state that is safe and prosperous and a community that is united, strong and hopeful.
He also spoke about the “hard journey” the party is on to bring about “clean politics, declaring war against corruption, poverty and biases”.
Basaiawmoit said that the VPP is also against the pervading VIP culture that, he said, has only brought hardships to the common man.
“We have not asked anyone to join us on terms that we will allot them the party ticket and give them important posts or other motives,” he added.
