Three members of the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) were today arrested by East Khasi Hills police for driving away over 300 persons, reportedly tourist who visited the city.
According to police, the tourists were on a two-day visit to the state on April 3. However, they were chased away by members of the pressure group from Diengiong, New Shillong.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger in a statement issued today said some members of the HANM went to Miracle Spring View Guest House located at Mawdiangdiang and had threatened tourists and the owner of the guest house with dire consequences, thereby creating fear and panic among the visitors.
“This caused fear and consternation to the owners of the guest house and tourists. In this regard, a case had been registered vide Rynjah P.S Case No. 39(04)2023 u/s 506/342/34 IPC and today three accused have been arrested,” he said.
The district police further warned the public from taking the law into their hands by disrupting the visit of tourists to the state.
