Three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested with smuggling goods worth Rs 48 lakh, while returning to the neighbouring country through the Dawki integrated check post, BSF said today.
Acting on specific information, on August 26, vigilant troops of the 4th Battalion BSF Meghalaya, in collaboration with local police, customs and LPAI, successfully recovered contraband items loaded in the Shillong-Dhaka Maitri Bus and apprehended the bus staff members who were returning to Bangladesh.
During the operation, a substantial amount of silver, sarees and electronic items, including mobile phones, headphones, and mobile accessories hidden in the bus’s cavities were recovered, the BSF said.
As the persons failed to produce any valid documents for the items, the Bangladeshi nationals and the seized goods were handed over to the Customs Office at Dawki for further investigation and legal action.
