Mawhati MLA and MDC Charles Marngar today said that around 22 villages under disputed Block 2 are inhabited by the Khasis, who wants to remain with the State.
Marngar, who is also a member of the regional committee for Ri Bhoi, stated a resolution was also signed by all the residents that they want to be with Meghalaya.
He told reporters that their views and suggestions were also submitted to the regional committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong yesterday.
“I have also urged Tynsong to give us more time to collect more documents that I can share in the next regional committee meeting so that we don’t lose any of our lands in the second phase of the boundary talk with Assam,” he said.
Marngar also said that a letter written by the KHADC to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council that no law and order problem exists there was also sent.
“I want the new EC to come and visit the border areas and I will guide them to understand the ground situation,” he added.
Marngar, who was not included in regional committee for the first phase of the border talks also assured that he will ensure that Meghalaya don’t succumb to Assam.
